Most of us, when we think about how far we’ve come in life, tend to immediately focus on the lack. We think about what we haven’t done or achieved.
We always find ourselves tragically short of perfection in one area of life or another, often in several at the same time and often in spite of all the outward signs of success.
It is a disease caused by our constant comparing ourselves with others who have more, done more and know more. The more we achieve in life the further we move the goal posts.
It’s not really a bad thing, per se, as it pushes us toward a higher achievement, but, like anything else in life, it needs to be balanced with some kind of recognition and celebration of how far we’ve already come and what we’ve already achieved.
This recognition and celebration needs to come from within ourselves. It is a private affair and needs no outside input or validation.
To stay balanced, we need to come up with some sort of a private ritual that will honour and celebrate who we are and what we’ve managed to achieve so far in life.
It needn’t be anything extravagant – it can be as simple as toasting yourself quietly with a glass of wine or thanking your lucky charms for bringing you as far as they have.
The point is to perform this ritual regularly and dwell in the energy of gratitude instead of the energy of lack.
So what will your ritual be? Experiment with different things and see what feels right.
